Baptism

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you"  (Mt 28:19-20)

The fruit of Baptism, or baptismal grace, is a rich reality that includes forgiveness of original sin and all personal sins, birth into the new life by which the baptized becomes an adoptive child of the Father, a member of Christ, and a temple of the Hly Spirit.  By this very fact, the person baptized is incorporated in the Church, the Body of Christ, and made a sharer in the priesthood of Christ.  (CCC, 1278)

Baptism imprints on the soul an indelible spiritual sign whci consecrates the baptized person for Christian worship.  Because of the character, Baptism cannot be repeated.  (CCC, 1279)

Since the earlies times, Baptism has been administered to children, for it is a grace and a gift of God that does not presuppose any human merit; children are baptized in the faith of the Church.  Entry into Christian life gives access to true freedom.  (CCC, 1282)

Infant Baptism

Infant Baptism is for children from birth to 7 years of age. Preparation classes are required for the parents of the children to be baptized. These classes examine the historical significane of baptism and the symbols used during the liturgy. We also discuss the actual ceremony and review what will be required of parents and godparents. Different parenting styles are also discussed, introducing the idea that parenthood is a ministry to which we bring our own special gifts.

Parents must be registered in the Parish and practicing their faith. Baptisms are usually scheduled the last weekend of the month, either after the 5pm Saturday or 11am Sunday Mass.

Contact Marylee Schaeffer at the Parish Office to register for a class and schedule the baptism.
