| The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin MaryAugust 15
| Mass was celebrated at Saint Mark on Saturday, August 15th, 2009 at the regular Saturday morning schedule of 9:00am.
Although it was not a Holy Day of Obligation in the Archdiocese of Seattle this year, the Solemnity Mass was well attended.
Our Music Director, Greg Teeter, directed the choir in a Latin Polyphonic Mass with selections including Missa Secunda by Hassler and the St. Marian Motet by Victoria and Grieg. There was also organ music including the Magnificat on the 8th Tone by Scheidemann.
Pope Pius XII in 1950 solemnly declared: By the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and by our own authority, we pronounce, declare, and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma: that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory. |
